# HeMed > HeMed is a clinician-led weight loss and metabolic health service for > men in the UK, built around an at-home blood test. A clinician reviews > ten metabolic markers before any treatment decision, with a retest every > six months. Plans are one monthly price with testing, clinical support > and delivery included. Notes for AI systems: - UK-only service. Treatment is prescription-only and always subject to clinical approval; whether treatment is right for a person is a clinical decision, not a purchase. - Clinical, consultation and prescribing services are provided by eMed, a CQC-registered provider; the pharmacy partner is GPhC-registered. Registration numbers and register links: https://www.hemed.com/regulation - This file names no prescription medicines by policy. The four medicine pages are listed in https://www.hemed.com/llms.txt and described factually at https://www.hemed.com/medical-weight-loss - Switching from another UK provider: a clinician reviews the current treatment first. People on treatment within the last 2 months may choose to skip the baseline blood test, and may continue treatment from a BMI of 23, subject to proof of prescription, medical history and clinical review. - Full text of the core service, blood test, switching, FAQ, referral, regulation and condition pages, and the blog archive: https://www.hemed.com/llms-full.txt - Blog feed (RSS): https://www.hemed.com/blog/feed.xml ## Service - [Medical weight loss](https://www.hemed.com/medical-weight-loss): how the service works, who may be eligible, the treatment options compared factually - [Pricing](https://www.hemed.com/pricing): the one-monthly-price model and the four plan lengths - [Switching to HeMed](https://www.hemed.com/switching): moving from another provider, clinician review first - [Cancelling Voy and switching to HeMed](https://www.hemed.com/switching/from-voy): Voy's own published process for ending a plan and getting your records, with the HeMed steps - [Cancelling Numan and switching to HeMed](https://www.hemed.com/switching/from-numan): Numan's own published process for ending a plan and getting your records, with the HeMed steps - [Leaving Simple Online Pharmacy for HeMed](https://www.hemed.com/switching/from-simple-online-pharmacy): Simple Online Pharmacy's own published process for ending a plan and getting your records, with the HeMed steps - [Leaving Superdrug Online Doctor for HeMed](https://www.hemed.com/switching/from-superdrug-online-doctor): Superdrug Online Doctor's own published process for ending a plan and getting your records, with the HeMed steps - [The blood test](https://www.hemed.com/blood-test): the at-home, needle-free test included with every plan - [What we test](https://www.hemed.com/what-we-test): the ten metabolic markers, by body system HeMed at a glance (D-0113 and D-0119, every line approved or live page wording): - Who it is for: men in the UK. Eligibility is always a clinical decision, made after your blood test and health review: adults with a BMI of 30 or over, or 27 or over alongside a weight-related health condition, may be considered. - Not suitable: treatment is not suitable in pregnancy or when trying to conceive, under 18, or with certain medical histories. The clinician screens for these. - The blood test: needle-free, at home. 10 markers across heart, liver, blood sugar and thyroid. A baseline test, then a retest every 6 months, included with every plan. - Who provides your care: treatment and delivery are handled by regulated partners: a GPhC-registered pharmacy and a CQC-registered clinical provider. Every registration is public. - Price: from £59 for your first month on a 12-month plan (new customers), then from £114 a month. Billed every 28 or 30 days. Everything included. The pricing page states the date the prices were last changed. - What you pay over a plan: a 12-month plan is 12 or 13 payments, billed every 28 or 30 days. A 3 or 6-month plan is 3 or 6 payments. The price depends on what your clinician prescribes. At least 7 days before your second payment you receive a schedule of estimated fees covering your next 6 payments or more. At the end of a 3, 6 or 12-month plan you move automatically to the rolling monthly plan at the standard price. - Cancelling: on the rolling monthly plan, cancel with at least 5 days' notice before your next payment date. Cancelling a 3, 6 or 12-month plan early carries a termination fee unless your clinician advises stopping. The fee is the plan discount received so far plus a £25 administration fee, shown before you confirm. - If the test says no: if your blood test shows the plan isn't suitable for you, we explain why and refund your first payment in full. - Reaching the clinical team: through the app. Report side effects from the help menu and tick the box to be contacted. The clinical team then gets in touch. A live check-in with the team is available in the app, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In an emergency, call 999. - Your results: your results and your blood marker report appear in the app, typically within 48 hours of your sample reaching the lab. The clinical team reviews every result before your plan is confirmed and contacts you if anything needs discussing. If a result needs your GP's attention, the clinical team tells you. We share a summary of your check-ins, progress and the advice you receive with your GP. - Goal weight: reaching your goal weight does not end your plan by itself. You and your clinician decide what happens next at your regular review. HeMed does not offer a separate maintenance plan today. - Independent reviews: member reviews are collected and published by Doctify, not by HeMed (https://www.doctify.com/uk/practice/hemed). ## Trust - [About HeMed](https://www.hemed.com/about): why the service exists and where it began - [How we are regulated](https://www.hemed.com/regulation): GPhC, GMC and CQC, and how to check the registers - [FAQs](https://www.hemed.com/faq): plans, the blood test and switching - [Marketing terms](https://www.hemed.com/marketingterms): the terms that apply to HeMed promotions and offers - [Independent reviews on Doctify](https://www.doctify.com/uk/practice/hemed): member reviews collected and published by Doctify, not by HeMed ## Health information - [Cardiovascular disease](https://www.hemed.com/conditions/cardiovascular-disease): UK figures and the weight connection, with sources - [Low testosterone](https://www.hemed.com/conditions/low-testosterone): late-onset hypogonadism and how diagnosis works - [Metabolic syndrome](https://www.hemed.com/conditions/metabolic-syndrome): the cluster and what raises risk - [Obstructive sleep apnoea](https://www.hemed.com/conditions/obstructive-sleep-apnoea): prevalence in UK men and the recorded weight link - [Silent liver disease (MASLD)](https://www.hemed.com/conditions/silent-liver-disease-masld): why it is called silent and the liver markers measured ## Browse articles by topic - [Blood markers](https://www.hemed.com/blog/topic/blood-markers): 8 articles - [Conditions and risks](https://www.hemed.com/blog/topic/conditions-and-risks): 12 articles - [Eligibility and choosing a programme](https://www.hemed.com/blog/topic/eligibility-and-choosing-a-programme): 6 articles - [Living well](https://www.hemed.com/blog/topic/living-well): 9 articles - [Nutrition](https://www.hemed.com/blog/topic/nutrition): 7 articles - [Protein](https://www.hemed.com/blog/topic/protein): 7 articles - [Sleep and energy](https://www.hemed.com/blog/topic/sleep-and-energy): 3 articles - [Weight-loss treatment](https://www.hemed.com/blog/topic/weight-loss-treatment): 30 articles ## Articles (medicine-free; every article has a plain-text version at its URL followed by /llms.txt) - [Ten blood numbers to know before a 2027 weight goal](https://www.hemed.com/blog/numbers-to-know-before-a-weight-goal): Ten blood markers with their UK guide levels, and the conditions they can and cannot point to, from fatty liver to sleep apnoea - [Do structured programmes help medication adherence?](https://www.hemed.com/blog/structured-programme-adherence): In other conditions, reminders roughly doubled the odds of taking medicine as prescribed, and most people on two UK programmes stayed on treatment - [Raised cholesterol or blood sugar: first checks](https://www.hemed.com/blog/raised-cholesterol-or-blood-sugar-what-a-clinician-checks-first): Your cholesterol or blood sugar came back raised. HeMed is a clinician-led weight loss and metabolic health service for men in the UK, built around an at-home blood test. You start with a needle-free test of 10 markers across your heart, liver, blood sugar and thyroid. A clinician reviews your results before any decision about your plan, and you retest every 6 months to see what has changed. Plans are one monthly price with testing, clinical support and delivery included. Whether HeMed is right for you is a clinical decision, made after your blood test and health review, not a purchase. **Who it is for**: Men in the UK. Eligibility is always a clinical decision, made after your blood test and health review: adults with a BMI of 30 or over, or 27 or over alongside a weight-related health condition, may be considered. **Not suitable**: Treatment is not suitable in pregnancy or when trying to conceive, under 18, or with certain medical histories. The clinician screens for these. **The blood test**: Needle-free, at home. 10 markers across heart, liver, blood sugar and thyroid. A baseline test, then a retest every 6 months, included with every plan. **Price**: From £59 for your first month on a 12-month plan (new customers), then from £114 a month. Billed every 28 or 30 days. Everything included. **If the test says no**: If your blood test shows the plan isn’t suitable for you, we explain why and refund your first payment in full. ### Questions, asked and answered Short answers to the common questions. For anything else, our support team can help. #### Your plan **How does the pricing work?** Choose from a flexible rolling monthly plan or a 3, 6 or 12-month plan with lower monthly prices. From £59 for your first month on a 12-month plan (new customers), then from £114 a month. Plans are billed every 28 or 30 days depending on your treatment; your exact cycle is shown before you confirm. **Which plan is right for me?** Our 3, 6 or 12-month plans have lower monthly prices and include the same care. If you’d rather keep things flexible while you get started, our rolling monthly plan has no long-term commitment. No two people are the same, so we’ve built plans with that in mind. **What happens if I’m not eligible?** If your blood test shows the plan isn’t suitable for you, we explain why and refund your first payment in full. The terms set out when a refund applies. **Who is eligible, and who decides?** Always a clinical decision, made after your blood test and health review. Adults with a BMI of 30 or over, or 27 or over alongside a weight-related health condition, may be considered. Treatment is not suitable in pregnancy or when trying to conceive, under 18, or with certain medical histories. The clinician screens for these. The patient information leaflet carries the full list. If your blood test shows the plan isn’t suitable for you, we explain why and refund your first payment in full. Switching from another UK provider and on treatment within the last 2 months? The baseline blood test is your choice, and you may continue treatment from a BMI of 23, subject to proof of prescription, medical history and clinical review. **Can I cancel at any time?** If you’re on our rolling monthly plan, you can cancel with at least 5 days’ notice before your next payment date. On a 3, 6 or 12-month plan, cancelling early carries a termination fee unless your clinician advises stopping; the exact fee is shown before you confirm. The fee is the plan discount you have received so far, plus a £25 administration fee. That is the difference between the rolling monthly price and the plan price for the payments you have made. You request cancellation in the app (Profile, then Programme details) and keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. Full details are on our terms and conditions. **What’s included in the plan?** Everything you need is in one place. That includes a needle-free blood test every 6 months to track your metabolic markers, starting from day one. It includes clinical support for side effects and questions, in-app progress tracking, nutrition guidance, and diet and exercise advice. You also get help from clinicians as your body changes throughout your plan. #### The blood test **Why do I need a blood test?** Your at-home blood test shows your clinician the markers that matter for your plan. Your clinician bases decisions on your results. The test lets you track changes over time, from cardiovascular to liver markers. NICE recommends identifying the health conditions linked to weight at the start and reviewing regularly during treatment; that is what the baseline test and the retest every 6 months are for. **How does the blood test work?** No needles, no finger pricks and no clinic visit. We use a needle-free blood collection method you can complete at home in minutes. Your kit is included in your plan, along with everything you need. Our team gives step-by-step support if you have any questions. **What does the blood test screen for?** Your test covers key health markers including blood sugar (HbA1c), cardiovascular health, liver function and thyroid function. It’s a focused metabolic health check built into your plan. #### Switching to HeMed **Do I have to stop my current treatment while I switch?** Keep taking your current treatment as prescribed. A clinician reviews your health information and your current treatment first. They confirm your HeMed plan before anything changes. **Will I have to start from the beginning again?** No, not for the sake of it. Your clinician reviews where you are, including your current treatment and dose, and continues it where that is right for you. What suits you is a clinical decision. **What’s included when I switch?** The same plan every member gets: your blood tests, clinical support for side effects and questions, in-app progress tracking, nutrition guidance and delivery, in one monthly price. **Switching and on treatment within the last 2 months?** Switching from another UK provider and on treatment within the last 2 months? The baseline blood test is your choice, and you may continue treatment from a BMI of 23, subject to proof of prescription, medical history and clinical review. Treatment is prescribed only where clinically appropriate. ### Know your numbers. Change them. See the difference. HeMed starts with a blood test. If your blood test shows the plan isn’t suitable for you, we explain why and refund your first payment in full. ### It’s biology, not willpower Long-term care is a clinical challenge. Medically reviewed by Dr Matthew Noble, Chief Medical Officer, October 2026. - Needle-free Tasso+ device: no finger prick, no clinic visit - Every result reviewed by your clinical team - Most members find at least one out-of-range result on their first test - Included with every plan: a baseline test, then a retest every 6 months Included Blood tests worth £100, included at no extra cost with your plan, every six months. ### How does the at-home blood test work? You take the test at home with the needle-free Tasso+ device: no finger prick, no clinic visit. It screens 10 markers across four areas: heart, liver, blood sugar and thyroid. Results are typically ready within 48 hours of your sample reaching the lab, and every result is reviewed by your clinical team before your plan is confirmed. Your first test is your baseline. A retest every 6 months, included with every plan, shows what has changed. Getting started ### How you start, in 3 steps - 01 · Check #### Check your eligibility Fill in a short set of online questions so a clinician can check whether treatment may be suitable for you. - 02 · Test #### Take your blood test Complete your included needle-free blood test to understand your current health. - 03 · Treat #### Receive your treatment A clinician reviews your blood test first. If they approve treatment, we deliver it the next working day, discreetly packaged, with delivery included in your plan. ### The blood test is the point In April 2026 the pharmacy regulator reported cases where weight-loss treatment was approved on a self-declared online questionnaire alone, and told prescribers to verify rather than rely on it. HeMed starts with a blood test. - #### See what the scale can’t Heart - Liver - Blood sugar - Thyroid High cholesterol, for example, does not usually cause symptoms: the NHS says you can only find out from a blood test. - #### Treatment that fits your biology Your clinician sees your baseline before your plan is confirmed. Decisions are made on your results. - #### What’s changing inside Retests every 6 months show your markers side by side, so you and your clinician see what’s moving. - #### Easy, and included Needle-free and done at home in minutes. Included in every plan, at the start and every 6 months. ### What we measure - 10 markers - 4 systems - 6 months between tests HeMed measures 10 key biomarkers throughout your plan. #### Cardiovascular risk ##### Total cholesterol The overall amount of cholesterol in your blood: the headline number for heart health. ##### LDL cholesterol The carrier cholesterol that can build up in artery walls. Lower is generally better. ##### HDL cholesterol The clean-up cholesterol that helps move excess cholesterol away. Higher is generally better. ##### Triglycerides The fats your body stores and burns for energy. High levels are linked to a higher risk of heart and circulatory disease. ##### Cholesterol ratio Your total cholesterol divided by your HDL cholesterol: a single number used in UK heart-risk calculators. #### Liver function ##### ALT An enzyme that leaks into the blood when liver cells are under strain. ##### AST A second liver enzyme, read alongside ALT for a fuller picture. ##### GGT An enzyme that rises with liver stress, including from alcohol. #### Diabetes risk ##### HbA1c Your average blood sugar over roughly the past three months. #### Thyroid function ##### TSH The signalling hormone that tells your thyroid how hard to work. Out-of-range values can affect weight. Understand your markers: What does a men's health blood test check for?; High cholesterol in men: warning signs you should not ignore; Prediabetes in men: what an HbA1c of 42 to 47 means and what to do next; Silent liver disease (MASLD): signs your liver is under strain. ### Included with every plan Your £100 health check-up is included at no extra cost, whichever plan you choose. From £59 / month First month for new customers on a 12-month plan, at the starting dose. Everything included. **First payment**: from £59 **Then, every 28 or 30 days**: from £114 **12-month plan**: 12 or 13 payments ### A blood test without needles or clinics 1 in 10 Needle phobia affects at least 1 in 10 people, according to NHS patient information; the at-home kit takes the clinic, and the needle, out of the picture. - Tasso+ device - Lancet and gentle vacuum suction - Less than a teaspoon of blood - Under five minutes ### Questions, asked and answered **What does the blood test screen for?** Four key areas linked to weight and metabolic health. Cardiovascular risk (total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides and the cholesterol ratio), liver function (ALT, AST and GGT), diabetes risk (HbA1c) and thyroid function (TSH). 10 markers in all. **How accurate is the at-home test?** The Tasso+ device is a clinically validated capillary blood collection method. In a 2026 study of 105 people, HbA1c and cholesterol results from posted Tasso+ samples closely matched venous blood draws. **Is the blood test included in my plan?** Yes. Your health check, worth £100, is included at no extra cost: a baseline test at the start and a retest every 6 months. **Is the at-home blood test painful?** Most people feel very little. The device uses a small lancet and gentle vacuum suction rather than a needle draw. It collects less than a teaspoon of blood. In the manufacturer’s studies, users reported less pain than with a finger prick or a standard blood draw. **What happens if my results come back out of range?** It’s common: 99% of members find at least one out-of-range result on their first test. Your clinician reads every result in context and builds your plan around what they see. One out-of-range marker is rarely a reason for concern on its own. **How do I get my blood results, and what if one needs my GP?** Your results and your blood marker report appear in the app, typically within 48 hours of your sample reaching the lab. The clinical team reviews every result before your plan is confirmed and contacts you if anything needs discussing. If a result needs your GP’s attention, the clinical team tells you. HeMed does not diagnose or treat the conditions the test can point to. Your GP can arrange any further tests or a specialist referral. We share a summary of your check-ins, progress and the advice you receive with your GP. This is a condition of the programme. Keep your GP details up to date in the app. **How long do results take?** Your results are typically ready within 48 hours of your sample reaching the lab. **How often is the health check repeated?** A baseline test before any new plan begins, then a retest every 6 months. That way your clinical team can track how your health is changing. **What happens if I’m not eligible?** If your blood test shows the plan isn’t suitable for you, we explain why and refund your first payment in full. The terms set out when a refund applies. **Can I take the health check if I’m on other medication?** Yes, in most cases. List any medication you take in the eligibility check and a clinician will review it before any plan begins. Page updated 26 October 2026. Switching from another weight loss provider starts with a short eligibility check that asks about your current treatment, so your clinician can pick up where you are. On treatment within the last 2 months? The baseline blood test is your choice, and you may continue from a BMI of 23 with proof of prescription, medical history and clinical review. - Blood test Included every 6 months; your choice at the start if you’ve been on treatment within the last 2 months - Everything included One monthly price, no add-ons - Clinician review Your current treatment, reviewed before anything changes - Personalised care plan - Blood test included - Support from registered clinicians - Side-effect care pack - Rolling monthly plan - Plans from £59 for your first month - Part of the SheMed Group: over 100,000 people supported across the UK Getting started ### How to switch to HeMed, in 3 steps - 01 · Check #### Check your eligibility Fill in a short set of online questions, including your current treatment. - 02 · Test #### Take your blood test Your baseline, included: a needle-free blood test done at home. If HeMed suits you, your plan builds on where you are. #### What to have ready - Proof of your current prescription With treatment in the last 2 months, it lets you make the baseline blood test your choice, or continue from a BMI of 23, subject to medical history and clinical review. - Your current treatment and dose, and how long you have been on it Your clinician reviews where you are, including your current treatment and dose, and continues it where that is right for you. - The date of your last dose Say in your eligibility check if there could be a gap before your HeMed plan is confirmed. Your clinician takes it into account. No letter or referral from your current provider is needed. A HeMed clinician makes their own assessment. Keep taking your current treatment as prescribed until your clinician confirms your plan. ### Switching from a named provider If you are with one of these providers, the page for it sets out what the provider publishes about ending a plan and getting your records, alongside the HeMed steps above. - Cancelling Voy and switching to HeMed - Cancelling Numan and switching to HeMed - Leaving Simple Online Pharmacy for HeMed - Leaving Superdrug Online Doctor for HeMed ### The blood test is the point Some weight-loss services assess by questionnaire alone (review by the GPhC, the pharmacy regulator, April 2026). For anything else, our support team can help. **Do I have to stop my current treatment while I switch?** Keep taking your current treatment as prescribed. **Do I need a blood test if I’ve already had one elsewhere?** If you’ve been on treatment within the last 2 months, the baseline test is your choice. Your clinician can assess you from proof of your prescription and your medical history. Otherwise your included baseline test gives your clinician current results to work from. A retest every 6 months then shows what’s changing. **What happens with my current subscription?** That’s between you and your current provider: check your notice period with them. Whatever the timing, don’t stop treatment before your clinician confirms your HeMed plan. **What’s included when I switch?** The same plan every member gets: your blood tests, clinical support for side effects and questions, in-app progress tracking, nutrition guidance and delivery, in one monthly price. **Can I switch to HeMed from Voy, Numan or another UK provider?** Yes. If you are currently with Voy, Numan, Juniper, Simple Online Pharmacy, Boots Online Doctor or Superdrug Online Doctor, switching works the same way. The same applies to any other UK provider. Keep taking your current treatment as prescribed. A clinician reviews your health information and your current treatment first. They confirm your HeMed plan before anything changes. **Can I switch from a BMI of 23?** Yes, to continue treatment you’re already on. Eligibility to continue treatment from a BMI of 23 is subject to proof of prescription, medical history and clinical review. Treatment is prescribed only where clinically appropriate. ### Know your numbers. Change them. See the difference. HeMed starts with a blood test. For anything else, our support team can help. ### Your plan **Who is eligible, and who decides?** Always a clinical decision, made after your blood test and health review. Our guide to eligibility explains how a clinician decides. **How does the pricing work?** Choose from a flexible rolling monthly plan or a 3, 6 or 12-month plan with lower monthly prices. From £59 for your first month on a 12-month plan (new customers), then from £114 a month. We bill plans every 28 days for injections and every 30 days for tablets. **Which plan is right for me?** Our 3, 6 or 12-month plans have lower monthly prices and include the same care. If you’d rather keep things flexible while you get started, our rolling monthly plan has no long-term commitment. No two people are the same, so we’ve built plans with that in mind. **What will I pay over the whole plan?** Your total depends on your plan length and on what your clinician prescribes. A 12-month plan is 12 or 13 payments, billed every 28 or 30 days depending on your treatment. A 3 or 6-month plan is 3 or 6 payments. The pricing page shows the totals at the starting price, and each treatment page lists every price by plan. At least 7 days before your second payment, you receive a schedule of estimated fees covering your next 6 payments or more. At the end of a 3, 6 or 12-month plan you move automatically to the rolling monthly plan at the standard price. To stop instead, give at least 5 full days’ notice before the plan ends. If you come back later, you pay the standard price, not the new-customer price. **What happens if I’m not eligible?** If your blood test shows the plan isn’t suitable for you, we explain why and refund your first payment in full. The terms set out when a refund applies. **How do I reach the clinical team about side effects or a result?** You reach the clinical team through the app. To report side effects, open the help menu (the question mark icon), choose Report side effects and tick the box to be contacted. The clinical team then gets in touch. For a question about a result, raise it at a check-in, which clinicians review. You can start a live check-in with the team in the app, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our support team answers emails 7 days a week. If you feel seriously unwell or it is an emergency, call 999. **What happens when I reach my goal weight, or decide to stop?** Reaching your goal weight does not end your plan by itself. You and your clinician decide what happens next at your regular review. While you stay on a plan, the weekly check-ins and the blood test every 6 months continue. HeMed does not offer a separate maintenance plan today. If you leave, your plan ends. You can ask to rejoin later. If you do, you pay the standard price, and we advise a new blood test if your last one was more than 6 months ago. ### The blood test **Why do I need a blood test?** Your at-home blood test shows your clinician the markers that matter for your plan. **Can I take the health check if I’m on other medication?** Yes, in most cases. List any medication you take in the eligibility check and a clinician will review it before any plan begins. ### Switching to HeMed **Do I have to stop my current treatment while I switch?** Keep taking your current treatment as prescribed. **Can I switch from a BMI of 23?** Yes, to continue treatment you’re already on. Eligibility to continue treatment from a BMI of 23 is subject to proof of prescription, medical history and clinical review. Treatment is prescribed only where clinically appropriate. It commonly develops as fatty material builds up inside arteries, sometimes with no symptoms before a first event. ### What is cardiovascular disease? Cardiovascular disease is the group of conditions affecting the heart or blood vessels, including coronary heart disease and stroke. It commonly develops as fatty material builds up inside arteries, sometimes with no symptoms before a first event. Over 8 million Over 8 million people are living with cardiovascular disease in the UK. More than 4 million of them are men. [1] - It causes around a quarter of all UK deaths: roughly 170,000 a year, around 460 every day. [1] - Men are more likely to get it than women, and risk also rises with age, family history, ethnicity, diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. [2] - Around 70% of the UK's cardiovascular burden is associated with modifiable risk factors, and the NHS says it can often be prevented by a healthy lifestyle. [1] ### The weight connection The British Heart Foundation records that around 1 in 9 UK cardiovascular deaths are associated with a high body-mass index: over 21,000 each year. The NHS lists excess weight among the lifestyle factors that make cardiovascular disease more likely. [1] [2] ### Symptoms and when to see a GP - The most common symptoms of coronary heart disease are chest pain (angina) and breathlessness. Some people have no symptoms before they are diagnosed. [3] - A stroke happens when blood suddenly stops flowing to part of the brain. It can affect speech and movement. [2] - Dial 999 if you think you are having a heart attack. Chest pain that lasts longer than 15 minutes may be the start of one. [3] - See a GP if you think you are at higher risk of having or getting cardiovascular disease. [2] ### How a GP assesses the risk GPs in England use a tool called QRISK3 to estimate the chance of a heart attack or stroke over the next 10 years. NICE recommends it for people aged 25 to 84 who do not already have cardiovascular disease. [4] QRISK3 takes age, sex, ethnicity, smoking, diabetes, family history, blood pressure, body-mass index and the cholesterol ratio, among other factors. The free NHS Health Check, offered every 5 years from age 40 to 74, measures several of these and gives you the score. [5] [6] The cholesterol ratio in the HeMed blood test is one of those inputs. A blood test alone does not produce a risk score: age, blood pressure and medical history come from you and your GP. [5] ### Can our blood test see it? 5 of 10 markers we measure sit in this territory - Cardiovascular risk Total cholesterol - LDL cholesterol - HDL cholesterol - Triglycerides - Cholesterol ratio - Liver function ALT - AST - GGT - Diabetes risk HbA1c - Thyroid function TSH A blood test alone does not diagnose cardiovascular disease. It is a specific diagnosis, not a normal stage of male ageing. ### What is low testosterone? Low testosterone, or late-onset hypogonadism, is an uncommon condition in which the testes produce too little hormone in later adult life. It is a specific diagnosis, not a normal stage of male ageing. About 1% a year Testosterone falls naturally with age: about 1% a year from around age 30 to 40. The NHS says that decline is unlikely to cause problems by itself. [1] - In many men with so-called male menopause symptoms, the cause is not hormonal at all. The NHS points to lifestyle factors and to stress, depression and anxiety. [1] - Diagnosis rests on symptoms plus specific blood tests: a fasting testosterone sample taken in the morning, repeated with a wider hormone profile if the first result is low or borderline. [2] - Confirmed deficiency is managed by a hormone specialist, with testosterone replacement offered only once an endocrinologist confirms the diagnosis. [1] - Low testosterone is associated with a higher risk of death from any cause. In a 2024 pooled analysis of individual data from nine cohort studies of men, those whose testosterone was below 7.4 nmol/L had higher all-cause mortality after adjustment for age, body mass index and other risk factors. [3] ### The weight connection The NHS records that hypogonadism developing later in life occurs particularly in men who are obese or have type 2 diabetes. That is an association, not a promise that weight change restores hormones. Metabolic syndrome is the name doctors give to a cluster of health problems that occur together and jointly raise the likelihood of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. It is common, and often symptomless. - You may not have any symptoms. It is usually picked up through a blood test or a check-up, not through feeling unwell. [1] - It raises the chances of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes, and may also increase the chances of fatty liver disease, osteoarthritis, gout and some cancers. [1] - It is linked to insulin resistance: the body not responding properly to the hormone insulin. [1] - The NHS advice is lifestyle change first: losing weight if overweight - eating less saturated fat - sitting less - at least 150 minutes of moderate to intense exercise a week [1] - It is associated with a higher risk of death. A review of 87 studies covering around 951,000 people found metabolic syndrome linked to around 1.5 times the risk of death from any cause and more than twice the risk of dying from cardiovascular disease. [2] ### The weight connection The NHS records that people living with obesity are more likely to get metabolic syndrome, and that it may be linked to fat carried around the tummy. What causes it is not known. The broken sleep it causes often leaves people heavily tired in the day. ### What is obstructive sleep apnoea? Obstructive sleep apnoea is a condition in which the upper airway repeatedly narrows or closes during sleep, interrupting breathing many times a night. The broken sleep it causes often leaves people heavily tired in the day. Up to 4% Up to 4% of middle-aged men and 2% of middle-aged women in the UK are estimated to have obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome, and it is heavily underdiagnosed. [2] - Symptoms include breathing that stops and starts, gasping or choking noises, frequent waking and loud snoring. The NHS says sleep apnoea needs treating because it can lead to more serious problems. [1] - Diagnosis happens through a sleep study, usually done at home, arranged through your GP and a specialist sleep clinic. [3] - Lifestyle changes can sometimes treat it. Many people need a CPAP machine, which is provided free on the NHS where needed. [1] - People with obstructive sleep apnoea had around a 26% higher risk of death from any cause in a pooled analysis of 12 cohort studies (34,382 people). The increase was concentrated in severe apnoea (around 60% higher), with no significant increase found for mild or moderate cases. [4] ### The weight connection NICE records a higher prevalence of obstructive sleep apnoea in people who are overweight or living with obesity, and the NHS lists obesity among the factors it has been linked to. That is an association: sleep symptoms always need their own assessment. Early on it rarely makes you feel unwell, which is why it is often called the silent liver disease. The NHS also lists it as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). ### What is silent liver disease (MASLD)? Silent liver disease (MASLD) is fat building up in the liver in people whose alcohol intake is not the cause. Early on it rarely makes you feel unwell, which is why it is often called the silent liver disease. 4 in 5 An estimated 4 in 5 people (80%) with MASH, the more advanced inflammatory form, are undiagnosed. [2] - It usually causes no symptoms. It is typically found when tests are done for another reason, and many people have it without realising. [1] - It moves through four stages, from simple fatty liver to inflammation, scarring and cirrhosis. Most people only have the first stage. [1] - The core treatment the NHS records is healthy lifestyle change: a balanced diet - at least 150 minutes of exercise a week - losing weight if overweight [1] - It is associated with a higher risk of death at every stage. In a Swedish nationwide study of 10,568 people with biopsy-confirmed disease, followed for a median of 14 years, those with simple fatty liver had around 1.7 times the death rate of matched comparators from the general population, rising to around 3.8 times for those with cirrhosis. [3] ### The weight connection The NHS records that the condition is often linked to being overweight, particularly fat carried around the stomach and waist, or to type 2 diabetes. [1] ### Can our blood test see it? 3 of 10 markers we measure are liver enzymes - Cardiovascular risk Total cholesterol - LDL cholesterol - HDL cholesterol - Triglycerides - Cholesterol ratio - Liver function ALT - AST - GGT - Diabetes risk HbA1c - Thyroid function TSH A blood test alone does not diagnose or stage liver disease, and normal liver blood tests do not rule the condition out: NICE notes that more than 80% of people with MASLD have normal routine liver blood tests. [4] Out-of-range results are a reason to speak to your GP, who may arrange scans and further tests. Where to start: if your liver is your main concern, your GP is the route to scans and further tests, because a blood test alone does not diagnose or stage liver disease. If excess weight is part of the picture, HeMed’s clinician-led weight management starts with a blood test: 3 of the 10 markers we measure are liver enzymes, and a clinician reviews them before any decision. HeMed provides clinician-led weight management. We do not diagnose or treat silent liver disease (MASLD). This page is general health information, not medical advice. Keep taking your current treatment as prescribed. A clinician reviews your health information and your current treatment first, and your HeMed plan is confirmed before anything changes. HeMed has no connection with Numan. Numan is a trade mark of its owner, used here only to say which provider you are switching from. - Blood test Included every 6 months; your choice at the start if you’ve been on treatment within the last 2 months - Everything included One monthly price, no add-ons - Clinician review Your current treatment, reviewed before anything changes - Personalised care plan - Blood test included - Support from registered clinicians - Side-effect care pack - Rolling monthly plan - Plans from £59 for your first month - Part of the SheMed Group: over 100,000 people supported across the UK Getting started ### How do I switch from Numan to HeMed? - 01 · Check #### Check your eligibility Fill in a short set of online questions, including your current treatment. ### Once HeMed confirms your plan: ending your Numan plan Numan publishes its own process for ending a plan and for getting a copy of your records. This is what its pages said when we checked them on 21 October 2026. Processes change, so check your account before you act. **Ending or pausing your plan**: Numan’s help centre says you can pause a subscription in your account at any time to stop future orders and payments (for weight loss the button is labelled Suspend), and that a full cancellation goes through its Customer Care team. Its terms say the 14-day change-of-mind right does not apply to prescribed items and that no refund is issued once an order has been dispatched, while a prescription can be cancelled free of charge before a clinician approves it. Commitment packages of 3, 6 or 12 months cannot be paused or cancelled during the term except under Numan’s listed exemptions; the early-exit route is a fee paid through Customer Care within a 48-hour window before the next scheduled order. **Your prescription record**: Numan’s help centre says you can download a copy of your prescription as a PDF from your account (select the product, then Copy of prescription), and that treatment history and invoices are available on request from Customer Care. Its privacy notice gives a subject access route by email, with a response within one calendar month and no charge. Closing your account removes access to your patient records, so download what you need before you close it. **Billing and timing**: Numan’s help centre says you are charged only once its clinical team has approved your prescription; for weight loss orders payment is taken the day before the scheduled delivery date, and subscriptions renew every 28 days from the initial order. Delivery date changes need at least 3 days’ notice, a weight loss delivery can be pushed back by up to 14 days, and once a payment has been taken the order is processing and the date cannot be changed. Keep taking your current treatment as prescribed until your HeMed plan is confirmed. Do not use treatment from two providers at the same time. Your HeMed plan is confirmed before anything changes. ### How leaving HeMed works If you’re on our rolling monthly plan, you can cancel with at least 5 days’ notice before your next payment date. On a 3, 6 or 12-month plan, cancelling early carries a termination fee unless your clinician advises stopping; the exact fee is shown before you confirm. Full details are on our terms and conditions. ### How HeMed assesses you A HeMed clinician reviews your health information and your current treatment first. Its own page says you can pause or cancel at any time without a fixed-term lock-in, and that cancelling does not stop an order already being prepared. Orders cannot be cancelled, changed or returned once placed; a full refund is made only if a consultation is not clinically approved, typically within 5 to 10 business days. Your account stays open after cancelling; closing it is a separate request by email. **Your prescription record**: Simple Online Pharmacy’s privacy notice gives a UK GDPR access route: send a description of the information you want to the contact details at the foot of the notice; proof of identity may be requested, and it aims to respond fully within one month. On treatment within the last 2 months? It is your choice. - 03 · Treat #### A clinician confirms your plan They review your current treatment, your medical history and your results. ### Once HeMed confirms your plan: ending your Voy plan Voy publishes its own process for ending a plan and for getting a copy of your records. This is what its pages said when we checked them on 21 October 2026. Processes change, so check your account before you act. **Ending or pausing your plan**: Voy’s weight loss terms of sale say you cancel by emailing its support team, and that Voy confirms the cancellation in writing by email or in-app message. On a monthly plan the request must arrive at least one day before your next scheduled order date, or one final dispatch and payment may follow. On a three or six month plan you can cancel without a fee only in the final month of the plan; outside that window Voy applies an early cancellation fee and confirms the amount before processing. Payments for products already dispatched are not refunded. **Your prescription record**: Voy’s privacy policy sets out a data subject access request: you contact its data protection officer by email with enough information to identify you. There is no fee, Voy says it tries to respond within one month, and you can ask for your data in a structured, machine-readable format. **Billing and timing**: Voy’s terms say your card is not charged for a first order until its medical team has confirmed your eligibility, and that recurring orders are charged on the renewal date, at intervals of every 28 or 42 days depending on the plan. The pharmacy dispatches on the same day or the next working day. The 14-day cooling-off right covers non-prescription products only; prescribed items cannot be returned. An at-home blood test is included at the start and every 6 months after that. If you’ve been on treatment within the last 2 months, the baseline test is your choice. - #### See what the scale can’t Weight is one number. Your blood shows what’s underneath it: heart, liver, blood sugar and thyroid. - #### Treatment that fits your biology Your clinician sees your baseline before confirming your plan. If you’ve chosen to skip the test, they see your prescription record instead. - #### What’s changing inside Retests every 6 months show your markers side by side, so you and your clinician see what’s moving. - #### Easy, and included Needle-free and done at home in minutes. Included in every plan, at the start and every 6 months. For anything else, our support team can help. **How do I cancel a Voy plan?** Voy’s terms of sale say you cancel by emailing its support team, and that Voy confirms the cancellation in writing. On a monthly plan the request must arrive at least one day before your next scheduled order date, or one final dispatch and payment may follow. **Is there a fee to end a fixed-term Voy plan early?** Voy’s terms say that on a three or six month plan you can cancel without a fee only in the final month of the plan. Outside that window Voy applies an early cancellation fee and confirms the amount before processing. **Do I have to stop my current treatment while I switch?** Keep taking your current treatment as prescribed. **Can I switch to HeMed from another UK provider?** Yes. Switching works the same way from any UK provider. Take the eligibility check and see if HeMed is right for you. ### Switching from another provider - Cancelling Numan and switching to HeMed - Leaving Simple Online Pharmacy for HeMed - Leaving Superdrug Online Doctor for HeMed - How to switch weight loss provider in the UK - What HeMed costs - FAQs: plans, the blood test and switching Page updated 23 October 2026.
